How to Play

Open-ended building grows with your child. Here's what to try by age.

⚠️ Safety First

Magnetic tiles contain small, powerful magnets and are made for ages 3 and up, with adult supervision for younger builders. Swallowed magnets are a medical emergency — seek care immediately if ingestion is suspected. Always check tiles for cracks and keep away from anyone who still mouths toys.

Ages 3–4 · Explore & Create

🏰 Flat to 3D

The leap from lying-flat shapes to standing structures builds spatial thinking.

  • Fold four squares up into a box or a cube — talk about "flat vs. solid"
  • Make a road/train track on the floor, then add buildings
  • Sort by shape and color, then build a rainbow
  • Use spatial words: on, under, next to, behind, inside
Ages 5–7 · Engineer

🌉 Build & Test

Now they're solving problems: what makes a structure strong?

  • Build the tallest tower that won't fall — then rebuild it stronger
  • Make a bridge between two chairs and test what it holds
  • Copy a picture of a structure, then invent your own
  • Explore symmetry: build one side, mirror it on the other
Ages 8+ · Innovate

⚙️ Geometry & Design Challenges

  • Build 3D shapes: pyramids, cubes, prisms — name the faces & edges
  • Try a "one-color-only" or "10-tiles-only" constraint challenge
  • Design a marble run or a working door/hinge
  • Recreate a real landmark (Eiffel Tower, a bridge, your house)

🧠 Spatial skills can be trained

The Malleability of Spatial Skills: A Meta-Analysis of Training Studies

A meta-analysis of 217 studies found spatial skills are highly trainable, the gains last, and they transfer to new tasks — the scientific backbone for why spatial play is worth doing.

A note on the evidence: the Ralph et al. (2020) study used magnetic tiles directly. The rest study block/construction play and spatial training more broadly — the same family of open-ended building toys and skills. Brand-specific randomized trials are still limited industry-wide, and researchers call for more targeted study. Every link above points to a real, checkable source. We share the honest state of the science — not hype.
